Implementing the Lesson, Part IV
The "Flipped Classroom" Model
To conclude this topic and assignment, I continued to work within the model of a “flipped classroom.” This time, instead of me standing at the Promethean board and writing out the class’s outline, I had two students serve as the teachers. They stood at the front of the room and had access to the Promethean board. I gave them complete control and explained to them that it was their job to make sure that the other students understood the material. I think that this part went well and it showed me the importance of giving the students a change to take control of the class. Below is a copy of the outline the class made.
As you can see, they were able to create an accurate outline and transmit the information to the class. I think that the other students appreciated being taught by their fellow classmates. The class was quiet while the students were presenting and the presenters did a good job engaging the class. This showed me that I could trust my students to teach themselves and others. Other implications and learnings will be discussed in the next section.
