Group #1: Drawing of St. Peter's Church
With a little bit of help from the dictionary and me, Jamal’s group was able to comprehend the main points of this excerpt. They understood that, according to Luther, the Church should not be (unjustly) collecting money from people and then using that money to finance the building of a new beautiful church, when there are decrepit and rundown towns. Instead, Luther believed that the church should be using the charity to actually help the Christian people who cannot afford the basic life necessities. In order to demonstrate this, Jamal’s group chose to draw a picture that highlighted the difference between the new church and the damaged towns.
On the left side of the picture is a drawing of a beautiful church. You can see the details that he included in the image to show how elaborately the church was built. On the right side you can see broken homes and posts. The houses are relatively smaller and uglier and the street is dirtier. In my opinion, this drawing appropriately demonstrates the injustices that the church was doing when they spent money on building St. Peter’s Church as opposed to helping the people in the poor towns.
